Endowment Funds

This endowed faculty chair was established in June 1989 by the family of Anna Greenway Griswold '33, whose Foxcroft involvement included serving on its Board of Trustees. This chair is awarded to a faculty member whose leadership transcends an academic discipline and strengthens the fiber of the school community.

Established in 1997 by a grant from the Robert J. Kleberg, Jr. and Helen C. Kleberg Foundation and named in honor of Miss Elanor Stevens - who chaired Foxcroft's Science Department from 1937 to 1970 - this endowed faculty chair provides funding for the salary, benefits, professional development, and departmental support for a Master Teacher of Science.

This fund supports employee benefits so that the School can continue to attract and retain the talented and dedicated faculty and staff members who work passionately each day to ensure our students and facilities are well taken care of.

Established in 2004 by the Willima R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust, this fund provides for a sabbatical program which will enable an experienced faculty member to undertake a productive project in research, scholarship, creativity and curriculum enrichment and study which supports the strategic goals of the school/department and enhances the teacher’s work with students.

Established in 2012, this fund allows for a cash bonus to be awarded to a distinguished member of Foxcroft's staff or faculty who exemplifies a personal commitment to the education and well being of the superior and average student alike. This award is given in the spirit of Jane Lockhart, Foxcroft Staff member 1966-2014 and established by the many students and their parents who have been enriched by her dedication to young women.

This fund supports teachers in the pursuit of innovative technologies to enhance the learning experience and increase students' understanding.  Periodically, grants are awardede to Foxcroft faculty members who are committed to lifelong learning, to the education of the whole student, and to the collegial sharing of ideas -- the values and standards that Keith McBride explified during more than 30 years at Foxcroft School.

Established in 1990 by the class of 1970 in memory of Mr. Achilles' powerful impact on the lives of his students and to promote excellence in future Foxcroft educators. The income generated from this endowment will be used to fund the salary, beneits, and professional development opportunities for a Master Teacher of English.

Established and endowed by Foxcroft's Board of Trustees to honor her legacy by annually recognizing a faculty member who best connects with and challenges Foxcroft's students to develop their analytical abilities, critical and independent thinking, communication skills and integrity.

This endowment recognizes the critical importance of Foxcroft’s outstanding teachers and provides them with professional development opportunities so that they can bring innovation in their fields to the classroom and improve teaching strategies to further support our students.

This fund, given in 1979 by the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust, provides grants for study that enriches classroom teaching.

This fund supports the operation of the Athletic/Student Center.

The income from this endowment, initiated by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon in 1971, supports the operation of the Audrey Bruce Currier Library.

Established by the Class of 1964 as their 50th Reunion gift, this fund supports the School's biology lab and honors classmate Dr. Stephanie Briggs Bennet.

Maintaining our buildings and grounds is critically important to the long-term stewardship of our School. This endowment funds all aspects of our plant operations and ensures that our campus remains a place of beauty and inspiration where girls learn, grow and thrive.

Established by Dr. Margaret Wilmer Bartlett '62 and the Honorable Marshall P. Bartlett in memory of Margaret's mother, this fund endows an English classroom in Schoolhouse.

This fund supports maintenance of the Jean duPont McConnell Stables.

This fund supports the operation of "Sally's Service Center", Foxcroft's Maintenace Facility.

Established by Priscilla "Penny" Rogers Denègre and her mother Priscilla "Pat" Rogers, in honor of the relationship between Foxcroft School and the Middleburg Hunt of which Miss Charlotte was Master for over 20 years, to maintain the hunt country of Foxcroft.

Named for Phyllis Pratt Nitze '30, former Trustee, and established by her daughter, Heidi Nitze '51, this endowed fund was begun in 1992 and supports the School's Post Office facility.

This fund supports the operation of Stuart Hall.

Established in 1969, this endowment, given in memory of Alison Harrison Goodyear, Class of 1929 by her husband Frank Goodyear and her friends, allows Foxcroft to invite a nationally-recognized individual, distinguished in public affairs, science or the arts, to the school. This program permits students to explore subjects in depth with persons of note.

Foxcroft's athletic program is designed to build confidence, discipline, leadership, perseverance, teamwork, focus, and expertise. This fund supports the School's interscholastic teams, a variety of non-competitive athletic options, our coaches and team travel, and more.

Established in 1987 and given in memory of Carin "Cat" McCain '88, this endowment supports Chimera, Foxcroft's literary and arts publication.

Created in 1996 in honor of Miss Charlotte by the Rev. and Mrs. Van S. Merle-Smith, this fund supports and encourages student participation in community service projects that they might learn to "brighten the corner" where they are.

Established in 2009 by Charles and Rosemary Barbour, along with their daughter Camille '09, to support the cooking club.

Diana and Bertram Firestone, parents of Alison '95, created this endowment for the riding program in 2001. This fund provides direct support to Foxcroft's riding program which is designed to challenge and develop riders of all disciplines and levels.

This fund supports Foxcroft's rigorous academic experience which challenges each girl to develop the analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills needed for her success in college and in life.

Established in 2001 by Ferrell Page McClean '64, this fund recognizes and supports the work of the Foxcroft Math Department in developing students' mathematical confidence and in providing the tools and the foundation to translate classroom learning into life skills.

Income from this fund may be used wherever the need is greatest and allows the Head of School and Board of Trustees the latitude to address operational and infrastructure needs and to respond to unanticipated situations. Such funds provide a vital source of income in the strategic planning of budgets and programs.

Designed to pay tribute to Foxcroft's founder, Miss Charlotte, and to serve the needs of the school today, this endowment was initiated in 1988 by a grant from the Hillsdale Fund.

Established by Austi Brown ’73 in honor of her mother, the Series seeks to "bring a variety of literary, performing and fine artists, artisans and designers to Foxcroft to share their work and experience while engaging the School in the creative process."

The Hilary Somers Deely Drama Endowment was created in 2001 by a grant from the Deely Professional Development Fund. Named in honor of Hilary Deely, past Foxcroft Drama teacher, this endowment supports the work of the Drama department in developming and encouraging students' love for all facets of theatre production. 

The income from this fund, started in 1997 in memory of Richard Weinbach, supports the History Department programs. 

A generous gift from the Paul L. and Phyllis Wattis Foundation in 1988 initiated this endowment fund. Each year the income from this endowment is applied to The Foxcroft Circle and may be credited in perpetuity to a specific person. Established in 2011 with a grant from the Kleberg foundation, to support the STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) program.

Established in 1997 by the family and friends of Lise "Lele" Sims Ernest '80, this fund supports the Foxcroft art program so that future generations of girls may find joy in their own artistic vision.

Established in 1977 by the Class of 1952 at their 25th Reunion, and in memory of Lilly Bostwick Davis '52, this fund endows the Foxcroft art program.

The Board of Trustees established this endowment in 2014 in honor of Mary Lou upon her retirement. Recognizing he need to sustain the School in perpetuity the earnings from this fund are not restricted. 

Established in 2000 by Sally Paxson Davis '58, this fund supports Foxcroft's music program.

Foxcroft's Riding Program is designed to promote the philosophy that riding helps develop character and the ability to make good decisions. This fund supports our long-standing tradition of horsemanship, our extraordinary facilities, our horses, and the staff who care for them.

This fund was initiated in 1998 by a leadership grant and challenge from an anonymous foundation. When the challenge was complete in 2000, the Science Department became the first fully endowed academic department at Foxcroft School.

Established in 2017 to honor Steve Matthews’ 39 years of service to the School as a Master Teacher, mentor, advisor, and of course, our most devoted "Friend" of the Library. This fund supports the operation of the Audrey Bruce Currier Library which is at the heart of our community.

This fund help us to strengthen our residential program by providing students opportunities to develop leadership skills, responsibility, and understanding through School traditions, community service trips, clubs, and fun weekend activities. Whether in the classroom, on the field, or in the dorms, each girl receives support in ways that make her feel embraced as an individual and that help shape her character.

Established in 2017 by the class of 1976 in memory of classmate Lexy, this fund supports the "Miss Margaret" Lee Fund to enhance the participation of students in the Riding Program.

Established in 1997 to honor Amy Mix Poggi ‘81, this scholarship provides a need-based award to a girl who demonstrates academic promise and a commitment to community service.

The Audrey Meyer Mars Scholarship Fund is a merit-based award established in 1997 for students with a strong interest in science and mathematics, and a commitment to community service. 

The Bartlett Family STEM Scholarship provides the opportunity of a Foxcroft education to a deserving student who shows an interest in STEM or any of the fields that STEM represents, regardless of financial need.

The Bartlett Family Environmental Science Scholarship provides the opportunity of a Foxcroft education to a deserving student who shows an interest in Environmental Science, regardless of financial need.

The Bartlett Family STEM Scholarship for Math provides the opportunity of a Foxcroft education to a deserving student who shows an interest in Mathematics, regardless of financial need.

Established in 1994 by the Starr Foundation, this fund provides need-based assistance to students.

The Celeste P. and Paul K. Bergan Financial Aid Fund supports Foxcroft's Second Step Initiative, a program to significantly increase the School's financial aid endowment. This initiative provides monetary support for students referred to Foxcroft by non-profit organizations that identify gifted students with limited means.

Established in 1999 by the Class of 1949 as their 50th Reunion Gift, this need-based scholarship honors the memory of their classmates by providing the opportunity of a Foxcroft education to future generations of girls with preference given to descendants of Foxcroft alumnae who exemplify the qualities of humor, resilience, service, and originality that characterized their highly individualistic class.

Established by parents, students, and friends of the Class of 2011 to keep Foxcroft accessible to girls who demonstrate the talent and ambition to succeed.

In honor of their 50th Foxcroft Reunion, the Class of 1973 created an endowment fund to support need-based scholarships for Foxcroft students who are willing and eager to embrace the qualities of community spirit and an understanding heart. Recognizing the value of the Foxcroft School experience, the class members wish to perpetuate the opportunity for young women to explore, discover and develop their own unique voices.

This merit-based scholarship fund established by Dede Pickering '71, provides the resources for the Head of School to ensure that Foxcroft is able to continue enrolling talented, high achieving young women each year.

The Elizabeth Dillingham Wick Scholarship Fund was established in 2012 by the children of the late Elizabeth Dillingham Wick '38 through her charitable trust in memory of their mother. This need and merit-based scholarship honors the legacy of Elizabeth Dillingham Wick by providing the opportunity of a Foxcroft education to deserving young women of future generations.

Established by Katherine Hastings '78, this fund embraces Foxcroft's "everything we do is curriculum" philosophy by helping to sponsor extra-curricular experiences which serve to enrich Foxcroft's academic and residential life programs. The scholarship will be available for cultural, artistic and academic enrichment events that are not supported by other financial aid and scholarship programs. Students may apply for assistance for any portion of the involved cost associated with the experience including but not limited to domestic travel fees, food, hotel stays, and program and event tickets.

Established in 1989 by Suzanne Kuser '49, this fund offers scholarship aid to students who are the children of Foreign Service or State Department employees.

Established in 1977 for daughters and granddaughters of alumnae.

Established in 1980, Foxcroft's first named endowed scholarship fund was the gift of Helen Kleberg Groves '45 and her father, Robert J. Kleberg, Jr., in memory of Mrs. Groves' mother, Helen Campbell Kleberg.

Established in 1998 in honor of Foxcroft teachers, Peter and Chal Hemmenway, this scholarship funds need-based grants with preference given to the daughters of educators.

Family and friends established this fund in 2001 to honor the memory of Henry Averell Gerry, alumna husband, alumnae father, and life long Trustee. It provides scholarship support to a girl who enjoys mathematics, and who through curiosity finds new challenges, and through patience finds solutions.

Established anonymously in 2008, this fund provides merit-based support to ITs (daughters and granddaughters of alumnae).

A merit scholarship awarded each year to a girl who shows a strong interest in civics, government, leadership or history demonstrated by positions she may hold at school such as class officer, leadership in community service and outside clubs, etc.

The Jane Clark Scholarship Fund was established in 2012 by Jane Clark '73. This need-based scholarship makes a Foxcroft education available to girls who demonstrate enthusiasm for making the most of the Foxcroft experience.

This fund, initiated by Ailsa Moseley Crawford '53 in memory of her daughter, Jane '77, sponsors study abroad opportunities for Foxcroft students who would otherwise be unable to participate in these programs. This scholarship has helped to send students to France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Syria, Jordan, Nairobi, Lithuania, Eastern Europe, England, Thailand, and Peru.

Established in 2008 by Lou Womack, in memory of her husband Jess, this merit-based scholarship makes a Foxcroft education more readily available to girls with enthusiasm for making the most of the Foxcroft experience.

The fund for this memorial scholarship was started in 1997 by the family of 'Jo' Kimberly Peterson '46. Grants from this fund are awarded based on need to girls who possess humor, kindness, and a desire to 'give back', the qualities Jo Kimberly reflected in her own life.

Established by Jane deButts Kates '72 in loving memory of her grandmother, to provide merit scholarship support for a deserving student.

Established in 2005 by a loyal Foxcroft family, the Leipheimer Scholarship is named in honor of Mary Louise Leipheimer. A former Head of School, Mary Lou devoted most of her professional career to Foxcroft before retiring in 2014. Her four-year scholarship is awarded to "a student who possesses the ability to work hard and play hard. This student demonstrates the qualities, often overlooked in young people, most exemplified by Mary Lou: honor, dedication, loyalty, humor, grace and an understanding heart."

A riding fund enabling students to discover the joy of that unique bond between horses and humans, established by an anonymous donor in memory of “Miss Margaret” Lee whose inimitable training helped make her a more sensible person and better rider, and in honor of the wonderful Foxcroft horses who helped make her a kinder, more empathetic person.

This fund was established to provide need-based assistance to a student who loves athletics and who possesses integrity, honesty, a sense of humor and an "understanding heart."

The DeWitt Wallace Fund, Inc., established this endowment in 1976 to provide partial scholarships for students from middle-income families.

Established in 2011 in memory of former Head of School Mary Louise Leipheimer's brother and beloved Foxcroft community member, Bob Leisher. Although Bob was with the Foxcroft community a short time, he left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Whether walking his dog Dreamer around campus, enthusiastically cheering on his Hound team, or quietly enjoying a meal with faculty and students alike, Bob was a “teacher” in his own right, quietly leading by example. This scholarship provides the opportunity of a Foxcroft education to a deserving student who is a quiet leader who embodies inner strength, humor, and a love of the outdoors. 

The Ruth T. Bedford ’32 Merit Scholarships for the Arts honors Ms. Bedford by supporting girls who share her passion for the arts and who embody her sense of adventure and enterprise.

This endowment seeks to increase the accessibilty of a Foxcroft education to qualified girls, regardless of their family's financial resources. Gifts to this endowment ensure that we can offer needed financial support to incoming students.

The Second Step Initiative was established in 2007 to bring highly motivated, academically-qualified students with limited means to Foxcroft by providing financial support for those students.

Given in 1978 by John J. Louis, Jr., this endowed scholarship offers tuition, grant, and loan assistance for students with proven financial need.

The Virginia Cretella Mars Scholarhip Fund established in 1997, is a merit-based award to students with a strong interest in literary, visual or performing arts and a commitment to community service.
