A Message from Incoming Head of School Lisa Kaenzig

Dear Foxcroft School Community,

What a thrill it was to receive the call from Board Chair Natalie Wiltshire offering me the Head of School role at Foxcroft! I arrived on the beautiful Foxcroft campus for a first interview during Opening Days, and I was overwhelmed with the joy and passion for learning and friendship among the girls and community members. I have never felt more welcomed! From that first interaction with the Foxcroft community, I could envision myself in this special place full of compassionate educators, learners, and families, all of whom share a devotion to building on the important legacy and traditions of Foxcroft. Foxcroft’s mission to “help every girl explore her unique voice and to develop the skills, confidence and courage to share it with the world” was embedded in every one of my conversations. Miss Charlotte’s original goal to educate the whole student in a community of kindness is clearly alive and well at the Foxcroft of today, more than 110 years later. I am very excited to continue that important mission at Foxcroft in the years ahead.

As a native Virginian who spent the early years of my career in Washington, D.C. and then returned to Virginia to attend graduate school at William and Mary, I am especially excited about Foxcroft’s location in the rolling hills of Middleburg. My background working in women and girls’ education, in talent development for young women, and in the liberal arts have combined to make me, like the girls at Foxcroft, an intellectually curious learner and leader. I am very familiar with the challenges and opportunities girls encounter today and look forward to working with the talented team of educators at Foxcroft to help our girls navigate these experiences while maintaining a spirit of both intellectual exploration and joyful exuberance in their lives.

I am delighted to join the Foxcroft community in this role that integrates my career experiences and personal belief in the power of the experience of all-girls education for both current and future students as well as for Foxcroft’s alumnae. I am grateful to the members of the search committee and the entire Board of Trustees for their trust in me to work with a stellar team to help lead Foxcroft’s next chapter. It is an honor to continue the exceptional legacy of Cathy McGehee and other past Heads of Foxcroft. I am excited to work with Cathy, as we transition forward in the coming months. From sleeping porches to understanding hearts to the stables to Sing Sings and Fox/Hound, I feel the lively spirit of positive energy at Foxcroft. I look forward to meeting many more members of the Foxcroft community in the years ahead.

All my best,

My career has been devoted to the advancement of educational and leadership experiences for girls and young women, and I look forward to this next chapter at Foxcroft. I am excited to join a talented team and a devoted community of alumnae, Board of Trustee members and Foxcroft families, as we strive to advance the impactful experience of a Foxcroft education for the girls of today and those who will join us in the future.
